Whenever you start to manage your eating and drinking habits, you realize that many of our entertainment habits are not very healthy. In today’s episode, we will explore existing habits and identify healthier ones to replace them with.
It’s okay to let loose and decompress from our responsibilities. Especially after a long day, we feel like we deserve to reward ourselves and spend the money we’ve earned. The danger comes when we build consistently unhealthy recreational habits revolved around eating.
Instead of eating for entertainment, meditate on healthy, fun activities or skill-building practices that you have been putting off. I have had to put in a ton of work on my eating habits, yet still occasionally slip up. We all do it and that’s what makes us human. I love your podcast! I have a question not directly related to this episode but it occurred to me while listening. I work in an outpatient office where drug reps buy us lunch almost every day, and it is usually not the healthiest of foods. I try my best to pick the best options from what is available but it is really not a good situation. I try to bring my food but I cant seem to motivate myself to spend money and time to prepare my own lunch when free food is brought to me daily. Any suggestions? I know you will probably say it is a choice that I am making but I am having trouble unmaking it.
thanks
Yep, you know exactly what I”m going to say! You have to decide to believe that the drug rep food is not serving you. That there’s no upside to eating it. That your body isn’t a garbage can that you just fill with whatever you find. You also have to build up your relationship with yourself so that when you decide to bring your own fuel food, you eat it, every time. There’s no room for negotiations. You’ve got this!
I am loving your podcast! Summer is coming and all the “partying” that comes with it too. I have realized it is very hard for me to be at an event and not have SOMETHING IN MY HAND AND SOMETHING IN MY MOUTH. Result is I end up overeating and sometimes (not usually because I go for the food) over drinking. I love going to social events and have fun at them but needing some tools to “DEAL” with the food part of them. Any suggestions?
I love love how you are tackling the food/weight issue from a completely different perspective that we are all used to – and this is the key to our success – our awareness and change in behavior. THANK YOU!
Hi Natalia! For sure, you need to have a plan that you’ve made ahead of time. For many people, having a can of sparkling water in their hand is just as good as holding a beer or other drink. You might just decide to not eat anything at the party to keep the negotiations and brain chatter at bay – meaning you’ve decided you won’t eat so there’s no need to spend time thinking about what’s being offered. Otherwise, bring something you’ve made that you can share and is on plan for you. Then stick to your plan, no matter what! You can do this!
Hello Katrina!
I love your podcasts! They are eye opening, and I have been telling all my colleagues about it.
I have a question stemming from episode 16.
I have always heard you using the phrase” going down the social media rabbit hole”. In this day and age, our phones are never away from us.It is always so easy for me to plop on the couch, after I put my kids to bed, and start browsing the internet or looking at social media. The voice in my head keeps telling me that it will just be for a few minutes, while I take a a quick break , before finishing up the rest of household chores.AND I FALL FOR IT! Of course that never happens, and the minutes keep dragging on. As you can imagine, I don’t rest and didn’t make any progress in finishing chores.
What tips do you have or use to limit internet use? I would like to be able to make time for my evening to do list, and also have some time to do something entertaining.
Thank you so much!
